Preserving history through community storytelling 

The City of Williamsburg engaged JMI to lead the creation of the African American Heritage Trail, a two-mile pedestrian experience honoring the city's rich Black history and cultural legacy. Working closely with City leaders, community stakeholders, and residents, JMI facilitated engagement efforts, gathered stories through the Share More Stories SEEQ platform, and developed interpretive content rooted in lived experiences. 

The resulting trail connects visitors and residents to the people, places, and stories that helped shape Williamsburg's identity. Unanimously approved by City Council in 2024, the project demonstrates JMI's ability to transform authentic community insights into meaningful cultural assets that educate, inspire, and preserve local history.
